The Cross & the Crescent Part 3: The Bible vs The Quran | Under God Ep 291

Can you prove the Bible is true — and that the Quran isn't? In Part 3 of The Cross and the Crescent series, Pastor Daniel Hayworth answers both questions using manuscript evidence, archaeology, and the Quran's own words. The Bible has 5,800 Greek New Testament manuscripts, over 20,000 additional manuscripts in other ancient languages, and more than one million quotations from early church fathers — more historical evidence than any other ancient document in all of human history. The Dead Sea Scrolls, specifically the Great Isaiah Scroll dated to approximately 125 B.C., match the text we hold today across more than a thousand years of separation. By contrast, the Quran was standardized when the third caliph ordered every competing version burned, and its two most widely read versions today contain over 1,350 variances between them. Then comes the Islamic Dilemma — a logical trap the Quran sets for itself that makes its own truth claims impossible.

Pastor Daniel Hayworth serves as a teaching pastor at Vintage Church in Central Texas and has led the Under God Podcast's Cross and the Crescent series from week one. In this episode — the third in the series — he walks through three proofs he promises to deliver by the end of the night: that the Bible is true, that the Quran cannot be true, and that the claims of the Bible are greater than we could have ever dared to hope. He traces God's covenant story from Adam through Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David to Jesus, showing how one unified narrative written across 1,500 years, by over 40 authors, on three continents and in three languages could only be preserved by the hand of God. He then turns to the Quran's fatal flaw: the Quran itself commands Muslims to trust the Bible and consult it — but the Bible's testimony about Jesus as the Son of God who died on the cross and rose from the dead directly contradicts the Quran's claims. If the Bible was corrupted in Muhammad's time, the Quran is wrong to affirm it. If the Bible was not corrupted, the Bible we hold today is reliable and the Quran falls. Either way, Islam loses.

What You'll Discover:

✅ Why the Bible has more manuscript evidence than any other ancient document in all of human history

✅ How the Dead Sea Scrolls prove the Old Testament has not been altered over more than a thousand years

✅ The Quran was standardized by burning all competing versions — and what Islam's own sources admit about missing verses

✅ The "Islamic Dilemma" that makes it logically impossible for the Quran to be true

✅ How God's covenant story from Genesis to Revelation tells one unified narrative that points to Jesus

Questions this episode answers:

Is the Bible historically reliable? — Yes. The Bible has more manuscript evidence than any other ancient document, with 5,800 Greek New Testament manuscripts, over 20,000 additional manuscripts, and more than a million quotations from early church fathers. The second most manuscripted book in history, Homer's Iliad, has only 1,757.

What do the Dead Sea Scrolls prove about the Old Testament? — The Great Isaiah Scroll, dated to approximately 125 B.C., is identical to manuscripts from over a thousand years later, proving that the Old Testament text has not been altered.

Was the Quran perfectly preserved? — No. Islam's own sources record that the third caliph, Uthman, ordered all competing versions of the Quran burned after Muhammad's death in order to impose one standardized text. The two most widely read versions today still contain over 1,350 variances.

What is the Islamic Dilemma? — The Quran commands Muslims to trust the Bible and consult it. If the Bible was already corrupted, the Quran is wrong to affirm it and cannot be God's word. If the Bible was not corrupted, then the Bible's testimony about Jesus — including His death on the cross and resurrection — is true, which directly contradicts the Quran.
